What is it they say about shopping when you're hungry? Don't do it? Well, if that's true, then maybe you'd better not play the card game Top Waffle while you're hungry or you'll end up ordering out for the title dish. Strike that. DO play this card game, hungry or not. Here's why you'll be glad you did. First of all, Top Waffle is quick to learn, and the premise--you're a fast food worker, striving to fill the most orders--is easy to grasp. The pink cards represent orders to fill, and they're worth a varied amount of points. Each turn, you either gather ingredients (orange cards) or grab an item to help you do your job (green cards). If you can, you then fill an order, take the card out of play, and save it to be counted at the end. Sounds easy right? And possibly a little like Splendor ? Game Review of Flourish: You Don't Need a Green Thumb to Dig this Game

Some of our review crew are great gardeners. I, however, am not. D on't get me wrong—I do love a stroll through a beautiful garden—I just don't want to plant it, water it, or weed it. Weirdly, some of my favorite games have to do with planting, growing, and harvesting. King's Vineyard is one as are Viticulture , Bohnanza , and Photosynthesis. As far as growing games go, Flourish is in good company, and it doesn't disappoint. In fact, it exceeds expectations because it has so much going for it—gorgeous artwork, the ability to play it competitively or cooperatively, sturdy components, and a simple setup and take down (once the initial build of its darn cute components is complete.) The game is quick-to-play, too, thanks to a style that's a little like Seven Wonders —another favorite. Flourish ’s play goes like this: you pick a card from your hand, pass one to each of your neighbors over their little rock walls, and then everyone reveals their picks at once

Calling all Mystery Lovers: 13 Clues is for You

I read the whole Nancy Drew series when I was in third grade, got hooked on Agatha in high school, fell in love with Cadfael about ten years later, and now, 13 Clues has captured my heart. Think of 13 Clues as a cross between the board game Clue and the card game Hanabi . As in Clue , you're trying to find out whodunit--the person, location and the weapon used. The twist is that the answers to those questions are found on three cards placed on a screen in front of you. You can't see the cards, but everyone else can. You're trying to solve your own personal mystery before everyone else can solve theirs. As in Hanabi , you accomplish your task by asking questions of the other players, and often you can glean information from the questions they ask. Small cardboard magnifying glasses are handed back and forth as you go, which means that sometimes, you can ask more than one question on your turn. Interplay is fairly high, then, but you're on y
